Ana Catarina Pinho has a background in Fine Arts and in Documentary Photography and Cinema. She is currently a research fellow for the FCT Portugal (Foundation for Science and Technology), developing a PhD at the European Centre for Documentary Research, in the United Kingdom. Pinho's recent curatorial and scholarly research includes topics such as documentary photography and film; photographic archives and archival appropriation in contemporary art.
She is the founder editor of ARCHIVO, a photography and visual culture platform, and is currently part of the research groups Global Art Archive (GAA), at the Departament d'Història de l'Art, Universitat de Barcelona - Spain, and Contemporary Art Studies (CASt), at the Instituto de História da Arte (IHA), Universidade Nova de Lisboa - Portugal.
In her visual practice she works with lens based media and was exhibited internationally in places such as Kunstlerhaus Bethanian, Berlin; Latvian Museum of Photography, Riga; Photoweek DC, Washington, USA; Nordic House, Keykjavik; Mois Européene de la Photography, Sofia; Museu da Imagem, Braga; Documentary Photo Days, Istanbul; XVIII Art Biennial of Cerveira; Colégio das Artes, Coimbra; Sala de Arte Joven, Madrid; Centro Cultural de Vila Flor, Guimarães, XVIII Biennale of Young Creators of Europe and the Mediterranean, Tirana; Arquipélago - Centro de Arte Contemporânea, Azores.
