MemWar II: Memory and Oblivion of twentieth century wars and trauma
The 21st century was born from the tormented history of the 20th, with its two World Wars and the last phase of colonial conflicts. By engaging in dialogue with MemWar. Narrating the memory, of which it is the continuation, the volume, in addition to broadening the time frame, addresses the early years of the 21st century; a significant openness to non-European issues and colonialism; greater attention to forms of visual art that fall within the memorial discourse (and therefore not only monuments, installations or paintings, but also, for example, toponymy, restructuring of urban areas, and more). Organized by the MemWar research group. Memories and oblivions of the wars and traumas of the 20th century of the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures of the University of Genoa, aims to investigate the ways in which the memory of these conflicts is handed down between the end of the 20th century and the 21st, such as representations are provided, what the blind and/or obscure points of this memorial process are and how the power relations between official discourse and counter-discourses develop.

Il XXI secolo nasce dalla storia tormentata del XX, con le sue due Guerre Mondiali e l’ultima fase dei conflitti coloniali. Ponendosi in dialogo con MemWar. Narrare la memoria, di cui è il proseguo, il volume, oltre ad ampliare l’arco temporale, affronta i primi anni del XXI secolo; una significativa apertura alle tematiche extra europee e del colonialismo; una maggiore attenzione alle forme di arte visiva che rientrino nel discorso memoriale (e quindi non solo monumenti, installazioni o quadri, ma anche, ad esempio, toponomastica, ristrutturazione delle aree urbane, e altro). Organizzato dal gruppo di ricerca MemWar. Memorie e oblii delle guerre e dei traumi del XX secolo del Dipartimento di Lingue e Culture Moderne dell’Università di Genova, punta a indagare le modalità con le quali la memoria di questi conflitti è tramandata tra la fine del XX secolo e il XXI, quali rappresentazioni ne vengono fornite, quali sono i punti ciechi e/o oscuri di tale processo memoriale e come si sviluppano i rapporti di forza tra discorso ufficiale e contro-discorsi.
