SYMBOLIC LANDSCAPE
2008-2010
ABOUT “…the house had arranged the space in a certain way, drawn a particular profile of the sky, positioned its volumes as elements of the landscape; it was landscape.” — José Saramago, “This World and the Other”, 1971 This series delves into the concept of landscape and its representation through the photographic medium, exploring its role within documentary narrative, and examining the intersection of landscape as both external and internal space, often perceived as opposites. By approaching landscape as a social and cultural product, the series explores themes of place, time, memory, identity, and the interplay between functionality and symbolism in constructing each image. Through the incorporation of interiors from houses in different countries, the photographs illuminate the personal and cultural details that shape the portrayed interior landscapes. Utilizing a large format camera for its development, the series depicts interior settings as landscapes, transforming biographical and personal details into symbolic landmarks connected to their inhabitants.
